Thanksgiving is right around the corner. While you’re busy making food this Thanksgiving, why not also add the task of making a meal for your dog. In fact, you can make a meal with ingredients that are sure to already be on your Thanksgiving plate. Many of the foods we eat on Thanksgiving are healthy for not only us but our dogs, and our dogs also LOVE the food. Turkey and sweet potatoes are enough to have your dog in taste bud Heaven. Here’s one puppy-edition Thanksgiving dinner recipe that is super easy to make (30 minutes) because you’ll already have the ingredients in front of you—oh, and your pup will scarf it down!

We all eat way more than we should on Thanksgiving, so this recipe is no exception for our pups. It makes nine 1-cup servings, but small dogs should only eat ¾ cup, medium dogs should have 1 ½ cups, and large dogs who are active can have 3 cups. So, this recipe has plenty of leftovers!

Ingredients:

- 1 lb. of cubed sweet potatoes

- 1 cup of cooked oatmeal

- 3 lbs. of skinless turkey pieces (light and dark meat)

- 4 tbsp. of turkey gravy (for puppies on a diet, use olive oil instead of gravy)

- 2 tbsp. of cranberry sauce

Directions:

If you’re not using your leftover turkey, follow all steps. If you’re using leftover turkey for your pup, skip to step 6:

1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

2. Lightly oil a roasting pan.

3. For boneless breast or thigh, cook 30–45 minutes; boned breast or thigh, 45–60 minutes; whole turkey, 1 1/2–2 hours or until the meat juices run clear when pierced with a skewer.

4. Let cool.

5. Remove all the bones and dice the meat into large pieces.

6. Roast the sweet potato pieces in the oven for 20 minutes.

7. Cook the oatmeal according to package instructions.

8. Mix together the turkey meat, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, and cranberry sauce. If using gravy or oil, add it now and mix thoroughly.

9. Enjoy!
