The State of Florida has more 2nd homes than all other states in the US. Florida has In excess of 1,100,000 second homes, which is more than California, New York, Texas, Michigan, North Carolina and Arizona. There are about 7,500,000 second homes across the US. 

There are severa reasons why Florida leads the nation, but the main 2 factors are the year round warm weather, and the lack of state income taxes. A lot of people that purchase a 2nd home in Florida do so with the intention of it being their primary residence in the future.
