How to Enjoy the Beach with Your Pup

Taking your dog to the beach can be fun, playful, stressful, and nerve-racking all in one. But, with some tips and advice, you can take the stress and nerves away and just have an enjoyable day at the beach with your pup.

  1.      If your pup is fair-skinned (or furred), apply sunscreen on your pup before going in the sun for a prolonged period.
  2.      Bring lots of water—your dog will get exhausted and need a nice boost of hydration.
  3.      Pack a perfect beach treat. Your dog will suck down its favorite snack on a tiresome beach day.
  4.      Bring your pup’s favorite fetch toys.
  5.      Know the ocean conditions before you go, so you can decide if it’s a good day for your dog to go swimming.
  6.      Shade is your and your pooch’s friend. Find a nice shady spot where you and your pup can cool off after playing in the sun.
  7.      Make sure your dog isn’t getting too crazy in the sand, especially is your dog is older. Dogs can always get an injury when playing rough and         tough on the beach.
  8.      Make sure your dog is comfortable with swimming before you tackle the ocean.
  9.      If your dog is timid with the water, let your pup take its time until it gets fully comfortable.
  10.      Make sure your dog does not drink the saltwater. Yuck!
  11.      If you don’t want to get stung by a jellyfish or be a victim of sea lice, neither does your dog. Watch out for sea critters while you’re in the                water.
  12.      Give your dog a nice rinse at the end of the day to get all the salt and sand off. After a long day at the beach, the last thing you want to do is          clean your sandy home from your dog.
  13.      Have fun and relax with your four-legged best friend!
