Pet Friendly Recipes: K-9-Ingredient Meatballs

By: Denise & Melissa Stewart

Do you ever feel guilty when you are enjoying your fine spaghetti dinner and your pooch is sitting on the floor staring at you with big puppy-eyes just begging for a bite? Well, there is no need to feel bad anymore. The next time you are having spaghetti and meatballs for dinner, why not make your pup some meatballs for dinner too. This pet-friendly meatball recipe from Rachel Ray is a delicious, healthy treat for your dog, and it is only 9 ingredients. Hence, the name K-9 meatballs.

Ingredients (makes 12 servings):

  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup cooked brown rice
  • 1 carrot, shredded
  • 1 stalk celery, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
  • 2 tablespoons chopped flat-leaf parsley
  • 2 tablespoons parmigiano-reggiano cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons ground turmeric

Instructions (15 min prep time, 15 min cook time):

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees
  • Grease a muffin pan or a baking sheet
  • In a medium bowl, combine all of the ingredients and mix well
  • Fill each muffin tin with about 1/4 cup of the mixture, or form the mixture into 10 balls and place on the baking shee
  • Bake until cooked through, about 15 minutes
  • Let cool completely on a rack
  • Let your pup enjoy!

The best part about this recipe is that the meatballs are healthy. They have protein, nutritious vegetables, and turmeric to help digestion, so you can feel good about what you are feeding your loved four-legged friend.
